Techniques for Removing Tartar from Teeth Without Going to The Dentist

Tartar is a hard yellow-brown layer of deposits that coat the gums and teeth, and it can be accumulated for several reasons. When naturally occurring bacteria in the mouth combines with the food molecules, they form a sticky layer called plaque. If plaque remains on the teeth or gums, it hardens and forms tartar with time, further affecting the health of gums and teeth.

Treating tartar may be expensive. You must either visit a dentist, pay a hefty amount, and then get your treatment done. Or, you can try a few whiteners or teeth cleaners that claim to be effective. But you can also try a few methods for removing tartar from teeth without going to the dentist. Read the natural, safe, and effective methods below to remove tartar.

Signs of Tartar Build Up

The following are the signs of tartar buildup.

  1. Rough Teeth: The most apparent sign of tartar build-up is rough teeth which can’t be removed by brushing.
  2. Health Issues: The solidification of tartar on teeth impacts the teeth and gum health and may cause bad breath, cavities, gum diseases, tooth sensitivity, bleeding, and other diseases. If you feel a layer on the teeth along with these symptoms, it’s tarter.
  3. Coloured Teeth or Gums: Tarter turns your teeth into brown, yellow, or tan, depending upon what caused it. But it may be black or brown if it is below the gum line.

Removing Tartar Without a Dentist

The following are a few methods to remove tartar without a dentist.

Baking Soda

In the first method, we will use baking soda to remove the tartar from the teeth. Baking soda is mildly abrasive and can effectively scrub your teeth. Follow the following steps.

  1. Wet your toothbrush with clean water.
  2. Put a small amount of baking soda on its bristles; use only a tiny amount.
  3. Brush your teeth while baking soda is on the bristles; keep it gently, and don’t swallow, although it has no impact.
  4. Once you have brushed your teeth, don’t rinse your mouth immediately. Instead, leave the baking soda on the teeth for 10-15 minutes before rinsing your mouth.

Note: You can brush your teeth with baking soda multiple times a week to help remove the tartar from the teeth. But avoid using it too much since it may damage the tooth enamel.

White Vinegar

White Vinegar

You can also use white vinegar instead of baking soda to remove the tartar from your teeth. If you have white vinegar, here is how you can use it.

  1. Mix one teaspoon of salt into a cup/glass of water to make it salty.
  2. Add four teaspoons of white vinegar to the solution you just created.
  3. Mix and stir the solution well and gargle twice a day with it.

The white vinegar has acetic acid that can demineralise the tooth enamel with its antibacterial properties. This way, it can be an effective way to remove plaque and tartar.

Orange Peel

The orange peel has antimicrobial properties and vitamin C, an effective solution to deep clean your teeth and removes tartar naturally.

  1. Take a fresh peel of the orange.
  2. Rub your teeth or the areas where the teeth meet your gums carefully with the peel from the inside.
  3. You can repeat this process multiple times for 2-3 minutes.

Alternatively, you can use the orange paste to brush your teeth, as seen in baking soda and white vinegar. All you have to do is try the peels, mesh them to create a powder or tiny particles, mix them into the water, and create a homogenous solution.

Aloe Vera & Glycerine

You can also use aloe vera with glycerine and utilise its antimicrobial properties to fight plaques, remove tartar, and clean your teeth naturally and effectively.

  1. Mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel in a glass of water, five teaspoons of baking soda, and four teaspoons of glycerine to create a solution.
  2. Use the solution to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth.

Note: Brushing the teeth using the same solution for several days is suggested. This will help you better remove and fight against tartar.

Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds are great dental cleaners that can naturally and efficiently deep clean your teeth and remove solid layers of tartar from teeth.

  1. Put a handful of sesame seeds in your mouth and chew them into a mesh; do not swallow them.
  2. Take a dry toothbrush and try to scrub off the tartar with it.
  3. Once you have rushed the teeth with the sesame seeds, use water to rinse them from your mouth.
